Hello, everybody! Welcome to my new blog! My name is Caroline Cooke, but please call me CC for short. I made this website/blog for everybody because I want you all to know all about some animals. Tell your friends and their friends and their friends and so on. Have fun and love creatures!

In the Desert

Love the Desert!!!

People think creatures who live in the desert are deadly and stuff. But I think not. For example, the gila monster. They may sound mean, but they just want their personal space. Their colors, orange with black markings, mean that you should stay back, because they have a poisonous bite. They won't let go till you stay still and stop freaking out over the bite. And after it lets go of you, it may still hurt because the bite has venom.  Now let us chit-chat about the all-time road-runner! It can run at least 18 mph! It runs with its head straight out in front if it. The road-runner is the fastest living bird in America! Well, hope you enjoyed that information. Have a great day!

Prairie Who? ;)

Prairies!

Prairies have a ton of creatures, for example bison, coyotes, and the little, cute prairie dogs. Let us talk about prairie chickens, shall we? Believe it or not, male prairie chickens actually dance-that's right, DANCE-to impress the females. They do it so they can have babies. And when a predator swoops in, the chicken(s) hide in the tall grass. And that is what they use it for: to hide in. Now let's talk about prairie wolves aka coyote. They're super-duper smart. And they are very sneaky. They can hop upon a prairie dog in a snap! And they know what's coming at them before they see it, like a stampeding herd of bison aka prairie buffalo. Now let's talk about them, the bison, okay? Great! Well, first, they are easily afraid of ANYTHING that they are not used to everyday, like a giant robot in their herd! And as soon the bison see the robot, they run and run and run and run and run! That is because they were scared and when one runs, they all run! 
Now you know some prairie animals! 
       

Raptor Time!

Raptors, Here We Come!

Raptors are birds that are predatory, meaning that they are predators. There are five basic groups of raptors:

• Hawks (Red-Tailed Hawk)
• Vultures (Turkey Vulture)
• Falcons (Prairie Falcon)
• Owls (Spotted Owl)
• Eagles (Golden Eagle)

There's an easy way to ID raptors when they are flying high in the sky. You can ID them by how they fly and look if you are close to them. Hawk: Short, broader wings and a fanned out tail. Vultures: Long, broad(not like the hawk) wings and the wings wobble when the vulture soars in the sky. Falcon: Big wings and falcons have big, black patches under their eyes. Isn't it neat so far? :) I don't know all of the details yet, but I'll research it, promise! Raptors rock!!!!

Birds Everyday

Common Birds

There are many everyday birds in America that you mostly see everyday of your whole, entire life. Here are some examples of common birds of America:

• American robin
• Sparrows
• Chickadees
• Blue jays
• Pigeons
• Doves
• Cowbirds
• Crows
• Ducks
• Owls

But not every person in America can ALL these birds in one day, but maybe most of them.
Fun Fact on Cow Birds: They lay their eggs in other birds' nests.
Fun Fact on Owls: They are also part of the five basic groups of raptors.

Hello, I am the creator of the website "Animals of North America," Caroline Cooke, But you can call me CC. I'm in 6th grade in the Bethel Middle School (BMS). I am 11 years old and have a wonderful family of four: an intelligent father, Nelson Cooke, Jr., a very understanding mother, Lisa B. Cooke, and a very silly 6 year old brother, Noah Cooke. My favorite foods are pasta and chocolate(but not together, LOL). My favorite song is Dark Horse by Katy Perry. And my favorite thing to do is learning about old and new animals. I put this blog together because I want people to know about creatures as much as possible and love explore them, too. Some animals are quite frightened to us, but actually, sometimes they're afraid of US!! Animals are extinct because of us because we didn't know a single thing about them, so we killed them to extinction. And some creatures are endangered, such as the black-footed ferret (about 750 left). So, enjoy the blog and learn and protect and love ALL animals. Bye! :)
